10 Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions on Actor Demo Reels

NO.
We are an editing service for professional working actors. We cut your previous work into a demo reel. This can be work from major motion pictures, TV, web series, independent films, or student films… but there must already be footage of you in order for us to edit a reel.

We have several packages depending on your needs. Most actors go with “The Feature” which is our standard full length reel. For full information, including pricing, please visit our ORDER page!

To get started on the editing process, simply hit the BOOK A CONSULT button at the bottom of this page.

NO! That is the beauty of working with a professional who knows the business. It is nearly impossible to evaluate your own work objectively… so let us take away that stress, and you can be confident that the very moments to market your talent have been chosen. Having said that- if you do have something that you want to be sure is included or not included, please let us know on the Footage Submission Form.

If your footage is from a film or series that has aired or will air on television or a streaming network, then we can do a footage pull (Aircheck). 3 Free Airchecks are included with your reel purchase. You can purchase additional or individual scenes on the AIRCHECKS page.

If your footage is from an independent or student film or series, or is unreleased or has only played in festivals so far… you will need to contact the producers directly to ask for your scenes. If a producer is withholding scenes from you for use in your reel, feel free to refer them to California Court Case Robin Bain vs. Film Independent Inc, et al. Of course, it should go without saying, you must first give producers adequate time to edit. Also, never expect unfinished footage to be released to anyone for any reason (even if the edit seems to be taking a long time!)

The first cut of your reel will generally be completed within a couple business days from your edit start date. Then it depends on if you would like adjustments or not. Every reel comes with the opportunity for up to 2 rounds of written notes, to be sure that you are absolutely satisfied. We request that you return your notes to us in a timely manner.

Rush orders are subject to availability and an additional fee usually applies.

Yes! Clips are incredibly important for submissions. Casting wants to see examples of your work that directly relate to the role that they are looking to cast. They don’t want to have to search for it. You and your representatives need to be able to add clips to your submissions to point casting in the right direction for specific roles. When you upload your reel to Actors Access, they will give you an option to split it up into individual clips. If you prefer to have us send your clips to you as individual files, that is a service that we provide free with your reel purchase, upon request.

No. Casting directors and prospective agents are busy people, they want to open up your reel and see you acting right away. If they don’t, you risk them turning it off before they even get to the good parts. They do not need to see what you look like on screen in a variety of outfits/settings, they want to see that you have chops. Yes, montages can look slick, but the purpose of this reel is not to show off our awesome editing skills, it is to show off your awesome acting skills! (This applies to actors only, if you are a speaker, host, or director, we can discuss montages individually).

Absolutely! And we recommend it if your footage is from something well-known. If your footage is from a recognizable source, we will include “lower-third” titles identifying the film/show.

We will email you a simple Footage Submission Form to send us your work. On this form you can upload files, provide downloadable links, and request Airchecks.

We do not accept files or links via email. Any materials added after work has begun will incur a charge of $40 per item, as adding new items has great impact to the flow and timing of your reel, and the entire reel will need to be re-evaluated. If your have work on a DVD, please contact us to discuss options… but remember, work needs to be recent to include it on your reel. A good rule of thumb is if you were in a different stage of life when the footage was shot, it is not current enough to be included in your actor reel.
